TEACHING POLICIES

Tuition and fees:

Tuition is charged in monthly installments, due at the first lesson of each month. Tuition will be adjusted to the number of lessons occurring per month. Monthly tuition is non-refundable.

Enrolling students are reserving their placement in the studio for the entire month. This guarantees their place in the studio at the time slot agreed upon with Jennifer. An advance notice of at least 48 hours is required to get a credit.

Teacher cancellations:

In the event that Jennifer is unable to give a lesson, she will either make it up, offer a credit, or give a refund, whichever the student prefers.

Payment methods:

Cash, electronic payment, or check, made payable to “Jennifer Peringer”. A $20 late payment fee is attached to any accounts not paid within 15 days. Returned check fee is $30.

Tuition fees are subject to change periodically, with a one-month advance notice.

Termination:

When the student wishes to terminate lessons a one-month advance notice is required, to be given at the beginning of the month prior to termination.

Practicing:

Regular practice is necessary for consistent progress. Beginning students should practice at least 15 minutes every day, playing through each item on their homework list 3 times. Intermediate students should practice at least 30 minutes a day. Advanced students should practice at least 45 minutes a day.

The Parent’s role:

Parents can help structure time for practice every day, and follow up on assigned work in the student’s notebook. For very young students it is helpful for parents to come for the last 5 minutes of every lesson, to be shown what the student’s homework for the week is. Praise and encouragement are the parents’ greatest tools. They can sit down and listen to their child play immediately after the lesson, then again just before the next lesson to hear how the pieces have progressed. They can also take their students to concerts, and engage in musical activities together as a family. If the student or parent has any questions or concerns about the lessons they are encouraged to communicate these to Jennifer via email, phone, or in person during lesson time.
